We are very proud as a club to host two National Tour Opens every year, and our Singles Open this year was our biggest yet. With a record entry we knew we had to pull out all the stops to make this the most competitive and successful tournament yet.

From the opening day on the 10th of May to finals day on Saturday the 17th the sun gods were shining down on Ballinacurra Gardens as over 230 players took to the courts in the searing heat. The supporters were also out in force from clubs all around Munster to cheer on their clubmates. As usual our neighbouring clubs Limerick Lawn, Monaleen, Ennis, Nenagh, Larkspur, Puckaune to name but a few were all in attendance in big numbers both playing and supporting. It is one of the most satisfying aspects of the open to welcome our neighbouring clubs and to see the friendships that we have formed over the years through competition.

On a club front it was fantastic to see such a huge entry from club members, and even more so to see the success of club members reaching finals and winning! It really is special to reach the final of your home Open.

It is a dangerous game to start with thank yous as you will inevitably forget a name but suffice to say the volunteers certainly make an event like this possible. Club members answered the call and manned the pavillion, the BBQ, the tournament desk and the court monitoring. The club committee left no stone unturned and made sure the week was a real success. A special thank you to Club Captain Brendan Maher and Club Secretary Steve Hehir, who ensured the smooth running of the whole event.
